The main functions of the Cooperation Department are as follows:
- Registration of cooperative institutions
- Regulation of cooperative institutions under the Cooperative Act and Rules
- Audit and inspection of cooperative institutions
- Conducting elections of cooperative institutions
- Settlement of disputes/appeals related to cooperative institutions
- Liquidation of cooperative institutions and cancellation of registration when they become non-functional
In addition to fulfilling the above objectives, the implementation of policy decisions and other public welfare schemes taken by the government in the public interest is ensured. For this purpose, the Registrar and their subordinate Additional Registrar, Joint Registrar, Deputy Registrar, and Assistant Registrar work in the department.
